The San Carlos Irrigation Project (SCIP Power) Customer Group is holding a public meeting to share information about ongoing work with neighboring public power utilities to identify a solution to the issues with SCIP. The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) has announced that it is developing options for the divestiture of SCIP Power Systems and is seeking to engage with electric utilities in Arizona, to assume ownership and responsibility for BIA’s off-reservation electric facilities and customers. Representatives of nearby non-profit public power utilities (electric cooperatives, electric districts, and others) will provide information on their joint effort to support SCIP customers, support the divestiture of SCIP, and develop a long-term plan for providing reliable and affordable service. They will provide a summary of their efforts, the role of public power utilities, and the steps they are taking to identify a solution. They will also provide updates on how SCIP customers can support these efforts and collaborate with the public power group.
